Reno

Tuesday 30 Mar 21. Win big from I arm bandit!

30 Mar 21

Got up at 7:30 and let the dogs out for their morning potty break. I cleaned up a bit while they were out and reconfigured aRTy for the day, moving blanket/rugs from the sleeping area to the area between the driver's and passenger's seats.

After I got the dogs back in aRTy I secured everything and got on the road. First stop Burger King for coffee. There I had a couple of cups while I wrote the blog entries for the last couple of days.

After coffee I made oats for breakfast with toast and half a grapefruit. I fed the dogs and gave Pete his morning insulin.

After breakfast I drove on to Reno. I planned to hang around Reno until after dark and check out all the casino lights. I found a Sam's Club online and drove there to fuel up. After fueling up, I parked in the parking lot and later went into the store and got a slice of their Supreme Pizza and a Brownie Sunday for lunch.

Later I drove downtown past all the casinos and parked on a side road. I killed more time in aRTyuntil it was getting dark and then took the dogs for a long walk. After getting them settled back in aRTy I changed into some nicer clothes. At sunset I walked to the El Dorado Casino and walked around for a while just people watching. At one point I decided I would gamble $1. I had not gambled in years and it has changed a lot since then. For the most part it appeared that you inserted your credit card and pushed some buttons to place your bet. Boring! I found a $.25 machine which took bills that had an actual lever to pull. I put in my $1 and bet just $.25. I got three bars, wow! I had satisfied my desire to gamble with just one pull of the lever. I figured that was the luckiest I would be all night so I cashed out. I got my ticket from the machine and had to ask an attendant where I went to get my money. She directed me to another machine. I inserted my ticket and out pops a $5 bill. If I never gamble again I'll be okay with that.

Later I walked back on the street and walked down to the Virginian Casino. Many years ago Alison and I saw a Doug Kershaw in concert there. He was popular at that time and I had seen him on TV several times. I remember Mom and I both liked the way he played with his fiddle low on his arm. I'm not sure he rocked Alison's boat but she went along anyway.

I tried unsuccessful to find the room we had seen the show in. It appeared like the casino had been reconfigured.

I was hungry and since I was already in the red on my food budget I decided I might as well make it blood red. I had to wait a few minutes but was able to get a booth at the Top Deck Restaurant after a few minutes. I ordered a 12 oz prime rib steak which wasn't that good.

After dinner I walked around the casinos a little more before walking back to aRTy. After I fed the dogs I secured everything and got on I-80 headed east. I drove for about and hour and then stopped in Lovelock. I found an open gravel lot with a semi parked in it and found a level spot to park. I reconfigured aRTy for the night and crawled in my sleeping bag for the night.
